An Authentic Chingri Macher Malai Curry Recipe

Chingri Macher Malai Curry Prawn Malai curry is a very famous and popular Bengali dish served with white Rice or Pulao for lunch or dinner on special occasions. Although it's a little heavy but who cares when such a mouth watering dish is just in ront of you! The Chingri Macher Malai tastes extremely great with steamed white rice, jeera rice or pulao. The recipe is amazingly easy. Try it and letus know how it comes out. The ingredients serves 10

  • 3 Cups Coconut Grated
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 10 Gms Ginger
  • 10 Flakes Garlic
  • 1 1/2 Cup Mustard Oil
  • 3 Medium Onion Chopped
  • 1 1/4 Teaspoons Turmeric Powder
  • 2 1/2 Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 1/4 Kg Prawns Shelled, De-veined And Wiped Dry
  • 4 Teaspoons Salt
  • 2 Teaspoonss Sugar

Method To Cook

  1. Extract 1 cup milk from coconut using 1 cup water
  2. Grind ginger and garlic into paste.
  3. Heat oil in cooker for about 5 minutes. Add onions and fry till golden brown. Add ground paste, turmeric,chilli and garam masala powders. Stir for a few seconds.
  4. Add prawns. Stir fry for about 1 minutes.
  5. Add coconut milk, salt and sugar. Stir till sugar is dissolved
  6. Cover and let it cook for 10 minutes on low flame.
  7. Take it off the flame after 10 minutes and garnish with raisins, and grated coconut.
  8. This preparation would taste best when had with steamed rice.Running the calories off next morning is suggested. :)
