An Authentic Chinese Diced Chicken Hunan Style Recipe

Hunan chicken is a Chinese dish, with a combination of sweet and spicy sauces, hot and spicy flavor, fresh aroma. It includes ginger, soy sauce, sherry, and chilli peppers in the sauce and many fresh ingredients.In this hunanian cuisine chicken is deep fried which add to flavor more.I enjoy it most with fried rice that too Chinese style.This simple Hunan chicken recipe combines the traditional flavor.Serve this dish cold, like a salad. Add a dish of our cold noodles with hot sauce and you've got a tasty meal.

  • 2 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts ,Cut Into 1" Chunks
  • Egg(1,Beaten)
  • 1/4 Cup Cornstarch
  • Onion (1/2 Cup, Cut Into Cubes)
  • Capsicum 1/2 Cup, Cut Into Small Pieces)
  • 3 Slices Ginger
  • 3 Cloves Garlic Or 1 1/2 Teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 Tbsp Sweet Soybean Paste
  • Black Pepper/ White Pepper Powder As Needed
  • Oil To Fry
  • Chilli Powder - 1 Tsp Or Dry Red Chili- 2 Pieces( Medium Sized)
  • Salt - To Taste
  • 1 Tablespoon Chili Garlic Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Tomato Paste
  • Vinegar Or Lemon Juice (1tsp)
  • Spring Onion Chopped-1/2 Cup
  • Handful Peanuts
  • 1/2 Tsp Sugar

Method To Cook

  1. Mix 1 beaten egg with cornflour,salt and mix well. Add chicken pieces tossing to coat. Stir well and marinate for 20-30 minutes. Deep fry chicken pieces and keep aside. Deep fry chicken in batches until fully cooked.
  2. Now rinse ginger, garlic, bell pepper and green onions, and then chopped tiny into pieces.Heat 4 tbsp oil in a frying pan on high flame and stir fry these ingredients for 2 minutes.
  3. In another medium bowl combine chili garlic sauce, white/black pepper, red chili, tomato paste, soy sauce,vinegar and sugar. Mix well with 3 cups of water and set aside.
  4. Add salt and boil for 3 minutes. Add water according to need of gravy.
  5. Add fried chicken to the gravy.
  6. Mix 2 tsp of cornflour and 1/2 cup of water in a bowl and add to the gyavy. It will let the gravy becomes thick. Pour the mixture in to the gravy . Boil for another 1 minute
  7. Put all this in a cooker for steam cook or you can lid the sauce pan for 10 minutes(until veggies become soft).
  8. Add spring onion and switch off the flame.
